Chamber to host seminar on foundation of starting a business

HUMBLE, TX— Jan Koenig, Business Adviser for the Lone Star College Small Business Development Center will speak at the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce seminar presented by Minuteman Press of Humble, “So, You Want to Start a Business” on Wednesday, December 5 at 9 a.m. in the board room of the Chamber office, located at 110 W Main St. in Humble.

This seminar is free of charge to Chamber members and $15 for non-members. This seminar is the first in a series of seminars relating to the topic of starting a business.

This seminar will cover topics such as:
  • How to identify the feasibility of a business idea
  • How to identify the requirements of a business idea
  • How to evaluate a potential business owner’s financial position
  • How to create a business plan
  • How to create a solid foundation for a business idea
Koenig received his bachelor of industrial engineering degree from the Georgia Institute of Technology and his master’s degree in business administration from Harvard University.

Koenig moved to Houston in 1978 after receiving his MBA. From 2003 to 2011, he owned and operated a multi-location franchise business operation, during which time he successfully developed two new territories and acquired two other existing operations.

Prior to becoming a business owner, Mr. Koenig held senior management positions with Nations Bank (now Bank of America) and with Compass Bank (now BBVA Compass).  He also has taught courses in entrepreneurship and small business management as an adjunct faculty member at Houston Community College.
