Description
Please join us for the Lake Houston Area Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Teacher of the Year virtual event presented by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union on October 20 at noon via Zoom. At this annual event we will recognize and honor each teacher of the year from the Humble ISD, Spring ISD, Lonestar College-Kingwood, and Private schools in the area. Keynote speaker will be Nelda Luce Blair. State Representative, Dan Huberty will be honoring Dr. Katherine Persson, Lone Star College - Kingwood President, who will be retiring in December after a lifetime of commitment and dedication to furthering the education and changing the lives of many in our community.

President and owner of The Blair Law Firm, Blair will kick-off this year’s event as the keynote speaker. As with many generational Texans, Nelda was the first in her family to attend college, so she greatly values the importance of education. She is President of the Conroe ISD Education Foundation and a board member on the Lone Star College System Chancellor’s Advisory Council. She has received gubernatorial appointments to serve on the Board of Regents for University of Houston and Stephen F. Austin State University. Blair is an attorney, public speaker, author, philanthropist, and television personality who has spent the majority of her 35-year career in the Woodlands.
State Representative Dan Huberty

State Representative Dan Huberty will present Dr. Katherine Persson the lifetime achievement award. Huberty is the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Education and served on the Humble ISD School board for five years before winning the election that sent him to the Texas Capital Building. Huberty has championed several important pieces of legislation relating to public education, one of the most memorable being House Bill 3 (HB3), a historic school finance bill passed by the 86th Texas Legislature in 2019 and signed by Gov. Greg Abbott. The bill provides more money for classrooms, increases teacher compensation, and reduces local property taxes for Texas taxpayers.
Honoring Dr. Katherine Persson
President of Lone Star College-Kingwood, will be honored after dedicating over 40 years to higher education. Persson entered the field of education with the passion to teach and help others reach their learning potential. She has represented LSC-Kingwood on various community organizations including both the Lake Houston Area and the East Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and as an elected school board trustee for the Splendora Independent School District.
The event is free for members. A Zoom link will be emailed with your registration confirmation.
