Coronavirus Report | April 1, 2021 | Top Line Points
From the Office of Congressman Den Crenshaw (TX-02):
Over 11 million Texans have received (at least) their first shot. And hospitalizations are down to another 6 month low. This is because all Texans over the age of 16 are now eligible for the vaccine. After 3 weeks of Governor Abbott’s executive orders, Texas is looking in better and better shape.
As states are racing to vaccinate their citizens, the UK strain is accounting for a quarter of new cases nationally. The CDC can confirm the B.1.1.7 variant is more transmissible. We are seeing this strain cause significant trouble over in Europe.
The FDA has approved two more over the counter rapid tests. The tests from Abbott Laboratories and Quidel Corp. are expected to be sold at drugstores at a lower price than a test from Ellume, the first to receive authorization for over-the-counter sales in the United States.
COVID-19 is confirmed to be the 3rd leading cause of death in U.S. for 2020. The coronavirus caused approximately 375,000j American deaths. It follows behind heart disease and cancer only.
Biden Admin is launching community corps to combat vaccine hesitancy. The administration is unveiling a coalition of community, religious and celebrity partners to promote COVID-19 shots.
