Lake Houston Area Chamber to honor educators on March 17 at Teachers of the Year Luncheon Presented by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union
HUMBLE, TX — The Lake Houston Area Chamber will honor teachers from Humble Independent School District, schools east of I-45 in Spring Independent School District, area private schools and Teachers of Excellence from Lone Star College at the Teachers of the Year luncheon presented by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union on Tuesday, March 17 at the Humble Civic Center from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Dr. Katherine Persson will be honored for her service and dedication to the Lake Houston Area. Persson, President of Lone Star College – Kingwood has been on the Lake Houston Area Chamber Board since 2008. She is an EDP Priority 1 (1 and 2.0) Investor and is also a committee member and was the Lake Houston Area Regional Planning Founder in 2015. Persson has been a member of the Long-Term Recovery Task Force since 2017.
Dan Huberty, Chairman of the House Committee on Public Education will be the keynote speaker. Chairman Huberty served on the Humble ISD School board for five years before winning the election that sent him to the Texas Capital Building. Huberty has championed several important pieces of legislation relating to public education. The most important being HB 3 in the 86th Session, which implemented transformational reforms to public school finance in Texas by modernizing outdated formulas, increasing the state share of funding, putting more money into classrooms, energizing teacher pay and investing in programs.
Approximately 80 teachers will be honored for their work in education at the event. The selection process took place this winter with one educator from each campus selected by their peers as that campus’ Teacher of the Year. The superintendents from each school district, private schools and the president of Lone Star College will recognize each of their teachers with an award of appreciation.
Awards will be presented by Community Resource Credit Union. The Platinum Sponsor is United Community Credit Union and Gold Sponsors are Joiner Architects, K&S Sportswear Lake Houston Family YMCA and Texan Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram.
The deadline to register for the luncheon is Friday, March 13. The cost is $35 for Chamber members and $50 for guests.
